Run D.M.C. & The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Monday, September 22, 2008

This Is Hip Hop History Yall.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Run-D.M.C. could “Walk This Way” into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The 1980s rap act, along with Metallica and the Stooges are among the nine nominees for next year’s hall of fame class, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced Monday.

The other nominees are guitarist Jeff Beck, singer Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack, and disco and R&B group Chic, the only nominee back from last year’s ballot.

The five leading vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted April 4, 2009, in Cleveland.

The ceremony typically has been held in New York but is returning to Cleveland after more than a decade-long absence. Tickets will be made available to the public for the first time.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five opened the door for rap at the Rock Hall as the first hip-hop act to be inducted in 2007. Now, Run-D.M.C., nominated in the first year of its eligibility, has the chance to follow on the strength of rock and rap blends such as the 1986 cover of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” and classics like “It’s Tricky” and “My Adidas.”

Stronger CD

What's good yall????

It's been a minute since I have blogged, but I am back after a little layoff.
Well I'm writing about my latest Cd entitled, I guess the title speaks for itself.

After listening to Kanye spit on that record you can't help but be inspired to overcome whatever problems or obstacles you have before you, and come out STRONGER because of it.

With all that said the two things that take me away from problems are:

1) Music - My Record Collection, My Serato, My Club gigs, My Radio Show, My I-Pod etc.......

2) X-Box 360 - Madden, NBA 2K8, MLB 2K8, (Pretty much any sporting game, LOL)

There are other things that take my mind off problems but I will focus on these two for now, LOL

I was trying to come up with a playlist that I was comfortable with but everytime I had "DJ's Block" I would turn on the X-Box and play a couple of games until my mind would clear up and then I would go back to my playlist. I don't know if any other DJ's go thru blocks like this but you should try that X-Box, after beating up on the Red Sox or Patriots and I was feeling great, LOL. Once I came up with idea of what I wanted to play on this CD I knocked it out, to all those people who don't understand the feeling of finishing a mixtape CD just compare it to completing a final exam in college...............think back now..............now you know how it feels.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I don't care for selling my CD's because I just like to give them away whenever I am doing my gigs or whenever I run into anyone that wants one of them.
Unfortuantely I don't get to see everybody so due to that fact I am posting up my CD so yall can download it for FREE......

So here you go, enjoy and feel free to hit me up on www.myspace.com/djdonjuan4life

Estelle Is In The Building!!!!

I know it's 3am in the morning but the kid ain't tired at all!!!! I was supposed to be spinning at a club in New Jersey tonight but thanks to the snow the joint was canceled. That's why we New Yorkers are the number one party people in the world (unlike New Jersey) because nothing stops us from partying; not hail, sleet, or snow.
(Like the U.S. Mail, LOL)

Well let's get to the story, at the beginning this year I came across this record that I had never heard before. The joint caught my ear because Kanye West was dropping some HOT bars at the beginning of the song (as usual), then I quickly thought to myself

"Did Kanye drop some new shit that the kid missed out on?".

My question was quickly answered when I heard the song transition into one of the smoothest voices that I have ever heard on a song, the new joint I was listening to was "American Boy" by an artist from the U.K. named Estelle. The music reminded me of Jamiroquai mixed Loose Ends mixed Chaka Kahn (For My Old School Classic Heads). Well me being me I started to do my research on her and found out that she had been on the music scene for awhile in London and she had recently been signed to John Legend's new label Homeschool Records being distributed by Atlantic Records. She was also being co-signed by some pretty big names in the music industry like Kanye West, DJ Mark Ronson, Will.I.Am, Swizz Beats, and Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo. After my research I reached out to Manny "The Secret Weapon" Toro to see if he had heard about her (He's always on top of upcoming talent), and he too was aware of her as a hot up in coming artist on the scene. I was so impressed with her music that I started spreading the word about her to other friends and sending the mp3 out to everybody I knew. Feel good music like this is what the music industry needs right now, and with all the bullshit that is on the radio airwaves right now people need to be aware of the fact that REAL talent does exist in music world.
(No Studio Engineering With Estelle)

Well two weeks ago me and my Serato took a trip to the City Of Lost Angel's a.k.a. Los Angeles (My Second Home), for my fellow Turntable Assassin E-One's Birthday Party @ Republic in Hollywood. I always have to be careful with E-One because every time I go to the West Coast this guy takes me on some crazy long expeditions, mostly in part because he happens to work for Atlantic Records / Special Ops Divison.

(They just promote records; not to be confused with Navy Seals or Delta Force Unit, LOL)

Well just as I expected on my first full day in L.A. this dude wants to take me to work with him. Thing is that this particular weekend the Grammy's are taking place in L.A. and he has to take an artist to do the radio room for the Grammy's at the Staples Arena. For everybody not familiar with the radio room, basically they cram about what seems to be about 100 national and international radio stations in a big room, and Grammy nominees from every music genre get the opportunity to be interviewed live. So here we go again E-One tells me we will be done by 2 pm the latest so I'm cool with it. As we make a quick stop by the Warner Brothers Music offices (Shouts to Warren Gesin a.k.a The dude with the sharpest threads in the building, LOL) I proceed to ask him who is the artist that he has to take to the radio room,

and he says "This hot new artist from the U.K. named Estelle" (WOW, LOL).

I couldn't believe it, I was going to meet the woman with the smooth voice. Well I indeed got the opportunity to meet Estelle and we got a chance to discuss her music and what she had planned for the future. I have to say that two of the things that impressed me about Estelle was that she really knows her music and is very humble. She was the only new artist that was doing the radio room and she held her own with the likes of Janet Jackson, Ne-Yo, T-Pain, Akon, Nelly Furtado, and many others. That speaks volumes about the type of person she is as well as the type of grounded artist she also is, and something tells me that she will be walking the Grammy radio room as a nominee in years to come. If you are not up on Estelle and her new single "American Boy" featuring Kanye West, you better get on it now. Estelle is one of the music industry's best kept secrets and she is well on her way to the top of the music charts.

If I had to describe her style and voice, "She is the PAST, the PRESENT, and the FUTURE!"

Happy Birthday E-One, party was off the hook and Suge Knight didn't kill anybody, LOL
I had a blast in L.A.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Kim Kardashian doing the radio room at the Grammy's, this chick's ass is the truth!!!!

P.S 2

The G-Men!!!!!

Well I know I'm about a week and a half late with this post, but better late than never. This one is going out to my New York Giants who made history on February 3, 2008 by winning the Super Bowl at the expense of the imperfect 18-1 New England Patriots (Boston Sucks!!!). I have to give props to my boy Eli Manning for quieting all his critics and playing one hell of game. I have too admit that I have always supported Eli, but I had my doubts about the Giants winning the Super Bowl this year when we lost Jeremy Shockey and Mathias Kiwanuka. The press and media said that Eli didn't have enough attitude to win in this city, but he definately showed the world his adopted NYC attitude with less than 3 minutes in the game and being down by 4 points. Eli drove the team down the field and showed what he could do with a bunch of quiet relatively unknowns like:
David "The Greatest Catch Ever" Tyree
Kevin "I'm Shockey Without The Mouth" Boss (Rookie)
Steve "Keyshawn's Envy" Smith (Rookie)
Ahmad "We Are Marshall" Bradshaw (Rookie)
Madison "What A Block" Hedgecock
And also throw in:
Plaxico "Who Needs Practice?" Burress
Amani "Mr. Clutch" Toomer
Brandon "I Will Run You Over Like A Truck" Jacobs

Add that combination together and what do you have???????

The priceless shocked faces of the Buccaneers, Cowboys, Packers, and Patriot Players.....LOL

Enough cannot be said about The Giants "Stomp You Out"Defense; that must have had Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson, Carl Banks, and all Giants Defenses from the past with smiles because the glory and Giants name was restored!!!!!!! Shouts to
Michael " I Finally Have A Ring" Strahan
Osi " I Am Legend" Umenyiora
Justin "You Are Going To Remember Me" Tuck
And the entire defense who shutdown that offense and sent Tom Brady packing for vacation with Giselle. (Maybe they should link up with Tony Romo and Jessica, LOL)

Finally Shouts to Tom Coughlin who was man enough to know his approach wasn't working and changed his game plan (like winners do) in order to get the ultimate prize (Knicks take notes)

Also shouts to GM Jerry Reese who in his first year on the job drafted 8 players in the 2007 draft who all played and made contributions this year; 6 of them played in the Super Bowl and made key plays which led the their championship win!!!! He has my vote for GM of the year.

So who's laughing now?
Not Eli, Tom, or the Giants, they knew they could shock the world, and they did!!!!!!

Congrats to my New York Giants, the parade was crazy!!!!!!!!!

My New York Yankees are next.

Tiki Barber, I love what you did as a player for the New York Giants.
You should have retired with class and kept your mouth shut.
All things come back to you sooner or later, in your case it came a year later.
This has to hurt!!!!

I'm A Blogger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I'm The Dude On The Right Hand Side, LOL)

Everyone welcome to my new blog. I'm new to this so please bare with me as I join the world of bloggers. Shouts to my boy Manny "The Secret Weapon" Toro, for putting me up on to this. I am a DJ so you will be reading alot about music, whatever crazy thoughts run thru my head. I'm also a big New York Sports fan so you will also read alot about sports especially when it concerns my New York Yankees (We will get that championship this year), New York Giants (You already got the championship this year), and the New York Knicks (You will not win a championship this year). So here we gooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
