New Tech: In Madden Super Bowl, EA Sports sees Peyton Manning and Broncos beating Seahawks in historic game

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Super Bowl XLVIII will have it all — some snow, a furious comeback and a game-winning kick in the first overtime contest in the game’s history.

At least that’s how EA Sports sees Sunday’s clash between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium playing out.

The video game company released its official Madden Super Bowl Prediction Monday, an annual simulation of the Super Bowl on its flagship football video game. EA Sports has correctly predicted eight of the previous 10 Super Bowls, and if the company is right again this year, it will mean Peyton Manning will have made history in a thrilling, snowy contest.

The simulation saw the Broncos defeat the Seahawks in overtime, 31-28, in Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium. Matt Prater kicked a 48-yard field goal through snowfall for the win, making Manning the first quarterback to win a Super Bowl with two different teams after winning Super Bowl XLI with the Colts.

Manning won game MVP honors in the simulation, throwing for 322 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted by Richard Sherman, the trash-talking, self-proclaimed best corner in the NFL, who ran it back for a touchdown right before halftime to give Seattle a 10-7 lead at the break.

That didn't stop virtual Manning from throwing at the boisterous Stanford grad again. With Sherman covering him, Demaryius Thomas hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass in the third. A Knowshon Moreno goal-line touchdown run gave Denver a 21-10 lead before Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka cut the lead to eight at the end of the quarter.

Manning connected with Wes Welker for a 24-yard score which gave the Broncos a 28-13 lead, but Seattle would not go down quietly. Russell Wilson's touchdown pass to Golden Tate cut the lead back to eight, and with the clock winding down in regulation, Marshawn Lynch ripped off a 27-yard touchdown run. On the game-tying two-point conversion attempt, Wilson faked a handoff to Lynch, rushed left, broke a tackle and crossed the plane to send the game to overtime.

The Seahawks got the ball to start overtime but Denver's defense rebounded from its fourth-quarter collapse to force a three-and-out punctuated by a Shaun Phillips. On the ensuing drive, Sherman was humbled again, allowing another big gain from Manning to Thomas that set up Prater's game-winning field goal; check out the video below. (SOURCE)
