Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of Lamont Coleman A.K.A. Big L's death. NBA All-Star Weekend 2009
NBA All-Star weekend just passed and I have to give shoutouts to NY Knicks own Nate Robinson a.k.a. Mr Kryptonite for his crazy dunk over Dwight Howard a.k.a. Superman. It was a classic showdown that will get even better next year in Dallas when King Lebron James finally takes part in the dunk competition.
These are some of this past weekend's winners:
Rookie Challenge Competition: Oklahoma Thunder's Kevin Durant Game MVP (Dropped a record 46 points, WOW)
H.O.R.S.E Competition: Oklamhoma Thunder's Kevin Durant (They need some more creativity in this event)
Skills Competition: Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose (Man this guy is quick, and way to end the competition with a dunk.
3 Point Shootout Competition: Miami Heat's Daequan Cook (This rookie is a problem from the outside and delivered with two high rounds)
Slam Dunk Competition: NY Knicks Nate Robinson (Krypto-Nate delivers with crazy dunk, shouts to Dwight Howard for being a good sport)
NBA- All Star Competition: Phoenix Suns Shaquille O'Neal and L.A. Lakers Kobe Bryant Co-MVP's of the game. (It was good to see these guys play together again)
P.S. Shouts to DJ Beverly Bond and DJ Sky Nellor, they did their thing yesterday during the pregame festivities.

Alex Rodriguez Finally Makes The Right Decision
Well it's time that I get to this topic being that the subject has to do with my NY Yankees. A-Rod finally admitted that he took performance enhancing drugs for three years back in 2003, so there goes the image of not only another athlete but the sport that he represents. There has always been criticism of A-Rod ever since he came to the Yankees because of his salary and the way he chokes in the post season but now we may know why. It had to be hard living with that huge lie over your shoulder especially after going on that national interview with Katie Couric on CBS and denying the very thing that you are now admitting to ESPN's Peter Gammons. So maybe the pressure was to hard to bear for him, but at least yesterday he started to do the right thing. He didn't embarrass himself further by denying claims and rumors like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, or Rafael Palmeiro, and he didn't plead the 5th like the once great Mark Mcgwire. I know that a lot of critics are saying that his admission almost seemed fake and that he was still lying but guess what folks, he is not the first to get caught and he won't be the last. This will continue unless all sports stop turning their heads and start toughening their positions on performance enhancing drugs. So where does A-Rod go from here? Well maybe he starts to be more humble. Maybe he stops trying to upstage the living Yankee legend Derek Jeter. Maybe he becomes more comfortable in his skin. Maybe he starts being a better teammate to his WHOLE team. Maybe he starts to earn that money in the post season. Maybe me and the rest of my pinstripe brethren are asking for too much. All I know is that I have seen people like Derek Jeter, Eli Manning, Mark Messier, and even Patrick Ewing make this city fall in love with them and it's not just because of wins; but by the way they carried themselves with respect and professionalism. Alex Rodriguez is a New Yankee and I support him no matter what just like all his teammates will support him when he arrives in Tampa next week for spring training. He will have to endure his critics all season long but he has admitted to his wrong doing. Now newspapers and media outlets can go on and find the other 103 baseball players that were not named yet so this can end and baseball can start to heal from this black eye. Maybe now Alex Rodriguez can stop being A-Rod, and he can really start to be Alex Rodriguez again....
P.S. I think that both the person who leaked the A-Rod story and the person who took that picture of Michael Phelps with that bong; should go to a mirror and look at themselves and know that they are looking at DICKS!!!!

Super Bowl 43 and the verdict is.....
It is hard to believe that we could have another great Super Bowl after the Giants beat down of the Patriots last year but that's just what ended up happening yesterday. Shouts to Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald from the Arizona Cardinals for making this into a game in the 4 quarter, they lost the game but they played the hearts out and left it out on the field. Shouts to Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes for making a hell of a play with that game winning touchdown, WOW. This play really took me back to last year's game. Shouts to James Harrison who maybe made the biggest defensive play in Super Bowl history by going 100 yards for an interception touchdown (Unlike the Dallas Cowboys Leon Lett in Super Bowl 27 / Look it up, LOL). Overall being a NY Giant fan I can't say that it was a better game than last year's game but it's a close 2nd. Hope the G-Men make it to Miami next year....
P.S. 1 ) Kurt Warner is a Hall Of Famer 2) Bruce Springsteen was boring as hell during the halftime show until he sang "Glory Days", and what happened to "Born In The U.S.A"???? Thank you very much Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson.

UFC 94.... And The Winners Are????
It was a good night’s work for Georges St. Pierre.
The UFC welterweight champion earned $400,000 (minus 30 percent in foreign taxes) for his four-round handling of B.J. Penn at UFC 94 “St. Pierre vs. Penn 2” last Saturday in Las Vegas.
The amiable French Canadian relied on his wrestling to pin and tire Penn against the cage, then later took the fight to the canvas.
Penn, the UFC’s lightweight titleholder, took his lumps and a $125,000 paycheck after being unable to launch any type of attack on his bulldozing foe. The popular Hawaiian’s corner signaled their fighter’s submission to the attending doctor between rounds four and five after St. Pierre dominated Penn for nearly 20 minutes.
Light heavyweight contender Lyoto Machida not only managed to keep his undefeated 14-0 record unblemished, but did so in surprising fashion by knocking out Thiago Silva in the last second of the first round. Machida made $120,000 for his efforts and was also awarded a $65,000 bonus by UFC officials for the sole knockout on the card that night. Silva, who dropped to 13-1, was paid $29,000.
Welterweight Karo Parisyan eked out a split decision over Deep standout Dong Hyun Kim and pocketed $80,000 in his 13th appearance in the Octagon since 2003. Kim’s first career loss came at a $26,000 price tag.
The UFC got a sweet deal in Jon Jones, who impressed with a high-octane unanimous decision over “The Ultimate Fighter” veteran Stephan Bonnar for only $14,000. Even in defeat, Bonnar took home more ducats at $22,000.
UFC 94 Payouts
Georges St. Pierre -- $400,000 (including $200,000 bonus)
def. B.J. Penn -- $125,000
Lyoto Machida -- $120,000 (including $60,000 bonus)
def. Thiago Silva –- $29,000
Jon Jones -- $14,000 (including $7,000 bonus)
def. Stephan Bonnar –- $22,000
Karo Parisyan -- $80,000 (including $40,000 bonus)
def. Dong Hyun Kim -- $26,000
Clay Guida -- $40,000 (including $20,000 bonus)
def. Nathan Diaz -- $20,000
Jon Fitch -- $68,000 (including $34,000 bonus)
def. Akihiro Gono -- $28,000
Thiago Tavares -- $26,000 (including $13,000 bonus)
def. Manny Gamburyan -- $14,000
John Howard -- $6,000 (including $3,000 bonus)
def. Chris Wilson -- $15,000
Jake O’Brien -- $22,000 (including $11,000 bonus)
def. Christian Wellisch -- $12,000
Dan Cramer -- $16,000 (including $8,000 bonus)
def. Matt Arroyo -- $8,000
Conclusion: The fighting card was great, but I wasn't impressed with B.J. Penn's showing against George St. Pierre. If he wants to fight at the welterweight division ever again, B.J. needs to train harder and keep his personal comments to a minimum. All his words did was further antagonize a fighter who was already focused to begin with. B.J. will be back because he is one of the best MMA fighters in the world. Perhaps he will show us that in his next fight.
