New Tech: Blackberry Z10

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Following a bevy of rumors surrounding the Z10, Blackberry has finally made an official announcement regarding the first full-touch BlackBerry 10 device. Outfitted with a palm-friendly 4.2-inch 1,280 x 768 display, the Z10 measures in at 5.13 x 2.6 x 0.37 inches – making it significantly bulkier than the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III. Beneath its mixture of aluminum and hard, textured plastic lies a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus buffered by 2GB RAM, a removable 1,800mAh battery, slots for microSD (up to 32GB supported) and micro SIM. On the imaging front, the handset packs a 2-megapixel front facer (720p video) and 8-megapixel rear shooter capable of 1080p recording. Finally, the Z10 will also ship LTE-ready (for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint) and be available in carrier-branded models across the top four US operators for $200 USD.

New Gear: Panerai PAM 438 Tuttonero GMT

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

The impressive announcements trickling out of SIHH 2012 from Panerai continue with their announcement of an all-ceramic rendition of the classic Luminor 1950 case. A natural choice for a virtually scratch-proof and super-rugged timepiece, ceramic isn’t entirely foreign to higher luxury tiers of horology. However, most unique about the matte black Panerai PAM 438 Tuttonero GMT is the inclusion of a matching ceramic bracelet. The brushed, 44mm casing is water resistant to 300 meters, and houses Panerai’s superlative in-house P.9001/B 29-jewel automatic movement (where the ‘B’ delineates the matte black galvanized version of their P.9001 movement) with an impressive power reserve of 72 hours and all the standard timing features. Expected to retail for $11,450 USD, the Panerai PAM 438 Tuttonero GMT should be available this fall. (SOURCE)

New Whip: 2014 Cadillac ELR

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Following an initial look at the concept stages of the Cadillac ELR, the North American International Auto Show in Detroit was the stage for the car’s official introduction to the world. The ELR is the first luxury electric coupe in GM’s lineup and is based off of the powertrain from the Chevy Volt. Unlike Tesla’s pure-electric Model S sedan, the ELR has a gasoline engine that backs up its battery. The vehicle can travel 35 miles on a single charge of electricity before a 1.4-liter engine comes to life and keeps the coupe running – thanks in large part to a 5.5-foot-long, 435-pound T-shaped battery and an engine that will provide 207 horsepower. The interior of the ELR is a destination unto itself. An open door reveals an exquisite oasis of elegance and information. Finely stitched leather accents, burled-grained wood and available carbon fiber, along with the technology of Cadillac CUE2, provide touches that may even exceed the comforts of home. The automaker has not revealed pricing for the vehicle, which will go on sale in the early weeks of 2014. (SOURCE)

New Article: Facebook Unveils Graph Search, New Social Search Feature

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Looking for something? Facebook it.

Facebook on Tuesday lifted the lid on a new way for users to troll for information on the social network. Called Graph Search, the new function allows members to more easily discover people, places and photos and other members’ interests, Facebook said.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the tool in Menlo Park, Calif., after the company issued a mysterious invitation last week to the media to “Come and see what we’re building.”

Unlike a typical Web search, the tool searches by phrases and lets users find only content shared with them on Facebook, keeping them on the website, Zuckerberg said.

Facebook touted the tool as useful for job searches, finding new restaurants and even dating.

Type in “friends of friends who are single” into a blue search bar at the top of the social network’s site, for example, and Graph Search spits out a list of potential mates.

Users can also search for music and movies their friends like.

The company, often criticized for privacy issues, stressed the tool will only reveal info that’s public or already available to a user.

Facebook began rolling out the tool to a limited number of its 1 billion users on Tuesday. Results that Facebook can’t deliver will be filled in Microsoft’s Bing search engine.

The move could eventually ramp up the battle for online advertising, analysts said, pitting Facebook against other places people search for things, like Google, LinkedIn and user-generated review website Yelp.

Facebook has been scrambling to prove its profitability to investors since its much-hyped public debut in May fell flat.

While better search capabilities are a step in the right direction, how much money Facebook can wring out of them remains unclear, Morningstar analyst Rick Summer told the Daily News.

Just because you grow a few inches taller doesn’t necessarily mean you're going to play in the NBA,” he said.

New Tech: Liquipel 2.0 Phone Waterproofing

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

A 100 times better than its predecessor, that’s exactly what Liquipel 2.0 promises. If you don’t already know, Liquipel uses a patented molecular level technology to coat electronic devices leaving them watersafe for pretty much their entire lifespan. The big news however is not the already proven awesome water-resistant capability, but the fact that the first of many retail locations with the patented on-site water-resistant treatment is set to open some time later this year. Once again, please be reminded that Liquipel is a preventative measure and it is still strongly recommended that coated electronic devices be kept away from water. (SOURCE)
