New Trailer: The Man With The Iron Fists

Friday, June 29, 2012

RZA's Man With the Iron Fists is to be a "bloody R rated martial arts extravaganza" that he developed after studying Quentin Tarantino for a few years. The film mixes kung fu with a spaghetti western mindset and a hip hop influence. The screenplay was written by Eli Roth and RZA. "I'm going to tell you that we put a lot of time into the script, a lot of energy into it, a lot of people were supporting me on it, and if the energy comes out right, it should be a classic film to have in your library," RZA stated before. The cast includes Russell Crowe, Cung Le, Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung, Rick Yune, David Bautista, with appearances from Grace Huang, Pam Grier, Gordon Liu and many more. Universal funded and is opening Fists in theaters sometime in 2012

New Gear: The C3H5N309 Experiment Watch

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

C3H5N3O9 is both the molecular formula for nitroglycerine and a horological experiment. Many of the most reactive (and most exciting) chemical reactions derive from combining seemingly innocuous ingredients. When Felix Baumgartner and Maximilian Büsser shared a pleasant lunch on a Geneva terrace in the summer of 2008, it started a horological chain reaction that four years later manifested as C3H5N3O9.

URWERK founders, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei had a concept featuring Wankel engine inspired indications that they had not yet developed, and they suggested that their constructor Cyrano Devanthey could develop and produce a movement based on that. MB&F partners Maximilian Büsser and Serge Kriknoff teamed up with independent watch designer Eric Giroud to design and produce the case. Experiment ZR012 by C3H5N3O9 features Wankel engine inspired hour and minute indications in an asymmetrical zirconium case with articulated and compound lugs.

At first glance the time appears to be indicated by centrally rotating triangular rotors; however, the triangles are actually Releaux polygons; they rotate eccentrically rather than centrally and track complex epitrochroid curves rather than circles. The system was inspired by the Wankel engine, which features orbital Releaux polygon rotors rather than the reciprocating pistons that power the majority of our car and machines today.

New Article: Kate Upton GQ July 2012 Cover Shoot

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

In the past fifteen months, Kate Upton has melted YouTube, transformed her Twitter feed into a product-placement bonanza, sparked a series of censorship controversies, acted in a couple of movies, made her Saturday Night Live debut, and—this part's almost quaint—landed her first Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover. We will allow that we've enjoyed the show. Now, with a little help from 19-year-old Kate herself (and with a goal of helping aspiring imitators everywhere), we've boiled her playbook down to these Seven Habits of Highly Effective Internet Bombshells.

1. Turn on camera. Any camera. Shake body. Repeat.
It all started last April with "the Dougie," a spontaneous bit of jiggling at a Clippers game that found its way onto YouTube and pretty much launched the Kate Upton Phenomenon. She practiced for weeks in the mirror before her big moment, right? "No! That was my first Dougie," she insists. The "Cat Daddy," a twenty-second gyration performed in just a bikini, followed this spring (and was then temporarily yanked from the site for a “community

2. Never bury the lead.
Our interview gets going with a tame icebreaker of a question: What's the most exciting thing you've done since becoming massively famous? Kate's immediate response: "For the GQ photo shoot, we were on that ride where the seat spins while the actual ride is spinning, and I'm wearing a one-piece. And all of a sudden the whole entire top falls off! I'm holding myself, laughing, turning bright red, but a lot of people are watching, so they kicked us out of the Santa Monica Pier—it was so embarrassing." Pause, then the kicker: "You wouldn't think that would happen with a one-piece!”

3. Create faux controversies...
Being a bombshell means constantly eyeing the line between good, innocent fun and too-hot-to-handle—and then occasionally crossing it. (Who, me?) A Carl's Jr. ad in which Kate experiences carnal levels of pleasure while eating a sandwich caused an outcry; an early cut of a Zoo York commercial featuring her running in a sports bra was too much even for MTV. And her costume in the trailer for the Farrelly brothers' The Three Stooges—a white coif, some rosary beads, and a wispy black "nun-kini"—was racy enough to provoke the ire of the Catholic League. "I can see why the Catholic Church would be upset with me," she says. "But it was just for fun, and I try not to take it more seriously than that.”

4. ...including making headlines about flirting with both Jets quarterbacks.
Mark Sanchez: Spotted bearing gifts at Kate's apartment. Tim Tebow: Caught chatting up Kate at an Oscar party. Kate's sole comment on the looming quarterback controversy: "I'm going to be less emotionally involved this year.”

5. Use natural talents to dominate the marketing universe.
Having 370,000 Twitter followers (safe to say: mostly men) makes Kate America's Premier Spokesperson for Dude-Friendly Products. A quick stroll through her Twitter stream has her playing Ping-Pong with Jason Pierre-Paul (on behalf of AXE body spray), hanging with James Harden and Kevin Durant (to promote Skullcandy headphones), and joking around with Justin Verlander (for the gaming company 2K Sports). "I grew up in Florida riding horses, so for the majority of my life I was either in boots and jeans or a bathing suit," she says. "I understand why my male followers like me.”

6. Emphasize your wholesome background...
Savvy bombshells know how to combine sexiness and naïveté in a way that somehow makes ogling them seem like the most innocent thing in the world. To get it right, you need a certain backstory, and Kate couldn't have a better one. Good girl? She grew up in a traditional, all-American family: Dad's a high school athletic director; mom stayed home with the kids. And though Kate grew up in Florida, she was born in the deeply conservative southwest corner of Michigan, where her uncle, Fred Upton, has been a Republican congressman for twenty years. God-fearing? Kate has two tattoos: a horseshoe on her wrist and a small cross on the inside of her finger. "You have to think hard with a tattoo," she says. "What will I love for the rest of my life?" Horses and Jesus seem like safe bets.

7. ...while still taking photos that look like these.
"It's like any job," she says. "You find your strengths and play them up.”

New Tech: Apple Unveils Retina-Display Next Gen MacBook Pro

Apple tried to take a serious bite out of its competition on Monday, unveiling a slew of slick new products and a host of software upgrades.

The company's Worldwide Developer's Conference kicked off in San Francisco with a keynote speech led by CEO Tim Cook and other Apple executives, who showed off a brand new laptop they're calling "the most beautiful computer we have ever made.”

Just 0.71 inches thick, this "Next Generation MacBook Pro" weighs four pounds and is "thinner than my finger," Apple's senior vice president of marketing Phil Schiller said, touting its dazzling retina display as the best in the world of laptops. The machine has a 15.5-inch screen and an Intel quad-core i7 processor, and comes with a serious upgrade in memory and storage capacity.

But the snazzy setup comes with a hefty price - the base model starts at $2199.

The MacBook Air, roughly the same thickness as the new MacBook Pro and available with 11 and 13-inch screens, also got a series of upgrades and a price reduction - the base model retails for $999.

Processor:
The next generation MacBook Pro will have a quad-core i5 or i7 processor with up to 16GB of RAM.

Super Thin:
The computer measures in at just .71-inches (the old MacBook was .95-inches thick), and weighs just 4.5 pounds, making it the lightest and thinnest MacBook pro to date.

Retina Display:
Much like Apple’s iconic iPad and iPhone, the next generation MacBook Pro will have a Retina display. The 15.4-inch screen will have a 2880 x 1800-pixel, 220ppi screen, making it the world’s highest-resolution laptop display. The screen has more than 5 million pixels, 3 million more than an HDTV.

The computer has deeper blacks, a higher angle of viewing, and Apple has reduced the glare on the screen by 75%. That coupled with the screen’s resolution allows you to see an extraordinary level of details in photos, and other content, offering an experience unlike anything ever available in the MacBook line of computers.

Storage:
Much like the MacBook Air, the computer uses flash storage, with hard drive options ranging up to 768GB. Flash storage can deliver data up to 10x faster than other hard drive options and takes up just a fraction of the space.

Updated Software:
Apple has updated its software to go along with the higher-resolution display. Cook promised a higher level of detail in Apple programs such as Mail, Safari, iMovie, and iPhoto. Aperture and Final Cut Pro are also seeing an upgrade to go along with the screen. The Final Cut Pro window, for instance is now 1080p, allowing for more information to go around it.

Adobe is also working to update PhotoShop for the screen, and Autodesk is working on a new version of AutoCAD. Diablo III is also headed for the Next Generation MacBook Pro.

Connectivity:
Much like the updated MacBook Pro and MacBook Air line, the Next generation MacBook pro will have USB 3 ports. The computer will also have two Thunderbolt connection as well as an HDMI port and a built-in SD card reader.

Battery:
Life Apple claims the Next Generation MacBook Pro will get 7 hours of battery life on a single charge, with 30 days of standby time.

Availability:
The Next Generation MacBook Pro starts shipping today, with pricing starting at $2,199.

New Tech: CordLite Light-Up iPhone Cable

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

While there are certainly worse problems you can encounter in life than fidgeting with your iPhone plug in the dark before calling it a night, it definitely is annoying for those of us that like to keep our iOS device properly charged while we snooze. Thanks to Scrap Pile Labs – the minds behind the latest Kickstarter, “CordLite,” that issue will soon be done away with. As the title implies, the CordLite infuses the iPhone’s charging adapter with two touch sensitive LED lights that illuminate to help you easily plug in your phone when lighting is lacking. Upon connecting with the device, the CordLite bulbs promptly shut off providing both a convenient and easy-to-use function.

The CordLite is a charging cable that provides illumination, enabling you to see your charging port in any low light environment. It's so simple, that by simply picking it up or holding it, it illuminates. The touch design eliminates the need for buttons or switches and keeps the look clean and simple. We worked really hard to design the CordLite to compliment Apple's impecable design.

The CordLite is made of rigid plastic for the body, and bead blasted aluminum for the touch plates. The cable is a standard USB cable and will charge and sync your iPhone/iPad/iPod just like the cable that came with it.

The CordLite in the video is one of a few working prototypes that have been in use for the last few months. They were made in our shop using time consuming and tedious methods, but we were able to work out the glitches early and we feel really good about the design.
